It was the first time the Textiles Social Skills Workshop had visited this gallery. We wanted to explore an exhibit called “Disobedient Bodies” which incorporated sculpture with Textile pieces.
Not everyone in the group liked galleries but enjoyed the mix of fashion in the exhibition. Someone described the displays as “colourific” and the unusual layout was fun to walk around. As there were no barriers between the observer and the art work, we had discussions around the social etiquettes around what was acceptable to touch and what you must leave alone.
We linked this idea to our own project work and if we would want people to enjoy the sensory experience of texture or if we would prefer people to leave it alone as it might damage the piece.
